The MWBA held there annual meeting. There were 13 teams present.
First order of buisness was a adopting a mission statement. After discussion the new mission statement will read as follows.
Midwest BBQ Association is dedicated to the teaching and advancement of the art of competition barbeque. As an organization the Midwest BBQ Association sponsors and hosts competitions in local communities that encourage enthusiasm for the art of competitive barbeque by developing and cultivating new and existing members with education, fair competition and various activities. The Midwest BBQ Association is a charitable organization that focuses on promoting good stewardship by helping children, families and community organizations. Regardless, of the members level of expertise, we all share the passion and desire to develop our skills as competitive BBQ teams.
Next order of buisness was implementing a new point structure. The following point structre was approved.
Point structure and calculation
Every MWBA Team gets 25 points for being in a contest
Points are given for OVERALL contest whether it’s a one, two or three meat. The only exception is MWBA Finals where points will be given in all meat categories and to the overall.
1st place gets additional 100pts.
2-gets additional 75pts.
3-gets additional 50pts.
4-thru 10 gets additional 25pts.
11place and above gets additional 15pts.
Additional 25 points for early registration (must be marked that you are going on the facebook event on that contest by 11:59 on the sunday before the contest)
Contest rep will get 75 points for repping the contest.
Points are whatever you place no matter what. (non-members get no points for that contest.
Then contest concerns were discussed. and empasized.

How do we encourage this? New points system was put in place
2)Rep concerns/responsibilities-discussed later
3)Contest organizer issues-
4)Team concerns/cheating-no one really had any
5)Alcohol consumption-reemphasized that if a contest does not want us to have our own alchol, then please respect there wishes and follow that.
6)Smoking (Cigarettes) on cook sites (see the rule book!)
7)General Public/Serving (where applicable)-emphasized that if we are serving the public, then keep food warm in smokers.
New Member enhancement
New members will still be asked to pay $50 like every other team.
The MWBA will refund the new teams first contest after joining up to $100.
Example “3 Dawgs and a Bone and a Kicking Bull BBQ team are at a contest and finally decide to join the MWBA. They pay that contests entry fee. We will pay the entry fee for the NEXT MWBA contest they choose to participate in up to $100.”
25 Points given to the MWBA team that recruits a new member. This is capped at three new members but they are still encouraged to get more. the team that gets the most new teams signed up will get 2019 member dues waved.
Proposed meat Limits
Listed on the contracts that are sent out to the contest that the following meat is the mazimum that a contest can ask our contestents to cook. This is also a great guideline for contests to know how much they should order so there is not waste.

8 Racks of ribs
2 Pork Butts
Chicken and mystery meat will be subject by the contest and up to the discression of the contest rep.
Any EXTRA meat cooked by the team will be subject to a premium to be paid by the contest organizer
$5/rack above 8 racks
$3/butt above 2 pork butts
$5/brisket above 1 brisket
For Extra meat cooked – This will be left to the discretion of the individual cook teams. Feel free to help our organizers by waiving this fee or part of it, although the MWBA will include it as part of the contract for those contests that may qualify.
Keep in mind, should you choose to cook the extra protein for a cost, it needs to be cooked to contest level with consistency as you were to turn it in. (Some may need rely on this meat for turn in anyway!)
Contest pay outs
The MWBA will strongly encourage the contest organizer to pay by the following structure per category or by overall contest:
2 place 25%
3 place 20%
Contest Tie Breaker
Any tie will be broken adding in the two (2) low scores for teams that are tied. Same will be done should there be two (2) ties within a meat category.
If a tie remains after adding the lowest score, the tie breaker will be by a coin flip.
Concurrent ties subject to the same method of tie breaker.
If you choose to be an representative for a contest on behalf of the MWBA, you agree to own that contest from beginning to end.
The MWBA representative is to work with the contest organizer on possible concerns or problems. You will be the first point of contact for that event. (provide phone number to organizer for questions from potential teams wanting to attend etc.)
There will be a fund established used for promotion of the contest to be used by the discretion of the contest representative. Accountability of funds spent will be the responsibility of the contest rep.
Contest rep must be engaged with the contest and be available to address any concerns that either the organizer or the teams may have. If the rep must leave the sight, make sure the organizer has your phone number and make sure one of the board members know you are gone. Contests reps will be approved by the board.
We are going to create a facebook page to look for judges to help us. also a central name and address list for judges will be kept on the website.

DISCUSSION WAS HELD ABOUT PARTNERING WITH ANOTHER NON PROFIT FOR TAX REASONS. THIS WILL BE WORKED ON BY THE BOARD AND THEN PRESENTED TO THE GROUP DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL MORE CAN BE REVEALED ABOUT IT.
DISUCCION WAS HELD ABOUT END OF YEAR PAYOUTS. IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE TOP 12 TEAMS WILL BE PAID OUT WITH A PAYOUT STRUCTURE TO BE DECIDED AT A LATER DATE.
MYSTERY MEAT CATAGORIES WILL BE JUDGED ACCOURDINGLY BUT WILL NOT AFFECT THE OVERALL SCORE FOR THE DAY. PAYMENTS ARE UP TO THE CONTEST AND HOW THEY ARE JUDGED ARE UP TO THE CONTEST REP AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE COOKS MEETING HOW THEY WILL BE TURNED IN.
